Happy New Year: 2018

Monday, January 01, 2018
Well, hello there!

I took a little break from the blog for the Christmas holidays, as there were many firsts for us here in this new house, and I kept busy with each day.  I tried my best to be present with each day, saying yes to those things that I wanted to say yes to, while saying no to those things that might have been a yes only to meet expectations.  With more intention, I was able to enjoy this Christmas more than I have been able to for many years, and I actually accomplished much more!  This year, we celebrated our first Christmas in our new house, hosted 35 guests between Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas morning brunch, and, for the first time in many years, the winter fairies sent us snow for Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, making for a beautiful white Christmas.  Christmas cards were out before Christmas, I volunteered at all of Amelia's Nutcracker performances (don't know if I will do that again!), and threw Juniper a karaoke party for her 10th birthday.  It was a busy December, but it was one of the best in recent years.

Now, with a beautiful blog planner in hand by Georgia Lou Studios, I am excited to launch into the New Year with the same intentionality I maintained throughout the holidays and apply those ways of being to my blog.  Some people call this mindfulness, and it is a skill I have worked on for many years.  One of the things I did in October was give up alcohol.  One week led to one month, and now it has nearly been three months since I have had any alcohol.  This has led to a sharper focus and deeper sense of self, allowing me to focus my time and energy on other things.  I am now thinking about having a drink or two for our anniversary, so am feeling intention even with a simple thing like having an alcoholic beverage.  With the blog, I have a lot of cool stuff I plan to share with you in 2018, and my new blog planner will help me stay organized with the varied topics I hope to present.  Let's do this!
