Oregon Coast Aquarium

Sunday, March 01, 2009

Feeling the stress of Landon's recent flare and upcoming layoff, as well as wanting to give Landon a quiet house to rest for the day, I spontaneously decided to drive the kids to Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport. We'd never been, and Sam was very excited. I drove down I-5 and took Hwy 22 west--what a beautiful drive! I think I'll go that way from now on.

Juniper has never been to the zoo yet (I'm looking forward to this outing in the near future), so she was captivated by the birds in the aviary and spent a good amount of time looking at the fish as well. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is a really beautiful place, and is probably one of the best aquariums I've visited. We definitely plan to go back some day. In fact, Sam said he "wants to go back with Daddy sometime." We certainly will.

As a special treat, Sam got to pick out something from the gift shop and happily ended up with this stingray. It will go nicely with his squid from the Seattle Aquarium.

The kids and I had a great afternoon together, and it's a day I'll probably always remember since it was just the three of us. Sam and I chatted most of the way home while Juniper slept. Until Landon gets better, it's just going to be me and the kids for awhile. I'm going to have to come up with some other weekend activities we can do together!

Here's a little video clip of the kids when they were in the aviary:

I'm so impressed that you did this. I think I would be afraid to drive that far on my own with the kids. Maybe one day we can pack all the kids in my van and do an adventure like this together? Good work, looked like a blast!
