Sound Roots Music

Tuesday, October 07, 2008

I recently enrolled Sam in a "Rookie Rock" class through Sound Roots Music, located in NE Portland, one block east of MLK, in a big, green Portland foursquare.

Sound Roots is a music school that offers many different music classes for many age groups and private lessons in a wide range of musical instruments. Sam's "Rookie Rock" class is for ages 0-6, and siblings under a year are free with a paying sibling.

Juniper was shaking the maracas to the sing-alongs, and Sam tried out many different rhythm instruments, and even picked up a small guitar at the end.

My husband, Landon, is a lifelong musician, and I took piano lessons from the 2nd grade until I was a junior in high-school. I can remember the desire to learn and experience music from a young age, and actually approached my parents in the second grade about starting piano lessons.

I like that Sound Roots was started by two parents, Fara and Chris Heath, who had a dream to share their love of music with others. They offer fresh ideas and approaches to music. Check out their website and the classes they offer. Maybe we'll see you there!

And P.S. The little girl named "Wren" is so adorable. I think I have discovered a new favorite name!
