Piles of Leaves

Sunday, October 12, 2008

Sam has been asking me for a few weeks now if I could rake up leaves into a pile for him to jump into, and we finally had just enough big leaf maple leaves to make a small pile, so I raked them up and he jumped away.

Big leaf maple leaves are rich in carbon, so I use them in the compost when I add kitchen and garden scraps, which are high in nitrogen. Once Sam had had his fun, I placed them in a bucket and put it next to the compost bin so I can gradually add them to get the ratio just right.

And what fun he had!

So, SO cute! My parents had a couple maple trees in the yard while I was growing up and they are the BEST for jumping in.

He looks like he had so much fun! I wish one of our trees gave us those perfect crunchy fall leaves. Great pictures... I love Fall!
