Another Day in September

Thursday, September 18, 2008

Today we had a preschool classmate of Sam's, who is currently his best friend, over to play for a few hours before school started. This meant I was up, dressed, and ready to go about two hours earlier than usual, so I got a good start to my day. Sam is a different kid when he has someone his own age to play with. They both had a great time and before I knew it, I was making the boys lunch and then we were off to school. Juni and I then ran some errands--grocery shopping for dinner tonight, stopping at Thinker Toys for tickets to the Portland Pirate Festival this weekend, and mailing off more children's books on trucks that Sam has long since lost interest in (love Bookmooch--four kids' books means four books for book-club for me!).

Soft tacos for dinner tonight. Leaving the house for some alone time and to catch up on reading for book-club, which is this Monday (how do the months fly by so quickly?). We're reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, author of Remains of the Day. So far, I'm loving this book, although I'm only about fifty pages in, so we will see if I continue to enjoy it. I love a tale about secrecy and isolation. Very mysterious. I'm also loving September this year. The streets are dry, and the leaves are starting to fall as the autumnal equinox approaches. Soon I will be brainstorming on costume ideas for Sam and Juni, but in the meantime, I'm about to attend my first pirate festival. I have a feeling this might be one of those family outings that Sam remembers for a lifetime.
