Near our hotel, we happened by chance upon a national monument at Front and Chestnut Streets, The Irish Memorial, erected to commemorate Ireland's Great Hunger of 1845-1850, when over one million Irish starved to death and another million were forced to emigrate. It was incredible and moving, as it seemed to capture the devastation, loss, and hope for the future during this time.
