Day at the Zoo

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

There were many things I wanted to write about tonight, but Juniper has come down with a cold. It's now 12:30am and she's only lightly drifted off to sleep. She had a cold that lasted a long while after she was born, but has been healthy for the past six weeks. Even though she isn't quite so little, her cold affects her ability to sleep & nurse effectively. It can make long nights even longer. For some reason, Samuel's been up now three times in the past hour, too. Landon's the only one sleeping soundly. I'm so jealous, but it's important that one of us is well-rested. I live for weekends when Landon is home to help out and I can sleep a little more (but I never do--I find myself using down time to get things done).

I had a good time at the zoo today with Samuel. After watching "Planet Earth" and "Blue Planet," his enthusiasm was contagious. We sat in front of the giraffe exhibit in the sun and had an afternoon snack of strawberries and rice cakes. I have to admit, I always feel a little sad for the zoo animals, but Samuel makes going fun. Next month, we'll be down in Southern California for vacation, and will visit the San Diego zoo. Samuel is already so excited.

We carry Juniper around all the time now in the Ergo. She loves it, and we do, too. I was really comfortable carrying her around all afternoon at the zoo. She's at the age now where her eyes are looking at everything for the first time and she's completely mesmerized. I love the 3 to 4 month stage!

I'm hoping I can get a couple of hours of sleep before Juniper wakes up again. It's now 12:45am and she's been asleep for 15 minutes. The only way I'm able to keep up with news & politics right now is through podcasts. I listen to them while falling asleep. Right now, my favorites are "Here and Now" and "Newspod," although I'm always looking for new ones to add to my queue.

Sounds like fun! We are hoping to make it to the zoo when we come out in July. My kids LOVE wild animals, and I think they'd really get a kick out of seeing real, live lions, tigers, giraffes, etc.
I can't wait to take them!

Ian loves the zoo too. That's funny about feeling bad for them because I avoid the monkeys for the same reason! I've heard the San Diego zoo is fantastic. Can't wait to hear how you like it.

I love the Ergo and that's so great that Juniper does too. Sawyer likes it only for a time but then wants out. He's never been a cuddler though so maybe that's why.

I hope she starts feeling better soon and you get some sleep.
