A Fun, Late-March Day

Samuel, Juniper, and I all headed out early this morning to spend some time over at my friend Andrea's house. Samuel had a lot of fun playing with Ian's large dinosaur. He hardly put it down the whole time. Samuel and Ian played well together, and I was able to look through some of Andrea's cookbooks. A few weeks ago, I posted that Joy of Cooking was my favorite cookbook, then later realized that I need to broaden my horizons. After looking at Andrea's cookbooks, I feel certain that very soon, Joy of Cooking will no longer be my favorite. I'm going to start out with the Moosewood cookbooks she recommended, as well as Vive le Vegan!. I need a fresh start in the kitchen, and what better way than to start off with some new recipes. After we left Andrea's (thanks, btw, for the great decaf & orange muffins), we headed to Portland Nursery to get a blue elderberry like the one we had at our old house. I've searched high and low around SW nurseries, but to no avail. Portland Nursery has it all, and sure enough, they had the blue elderberry I have been looking for. I can't wait to plant it right behind our garden bench out front. I picked up some euphorbia characias (black pearl Mediterranean spurge) for my euphorbia garden as well. After we stopped at the nursery, we drove to Laurelhurst Park so Samuel could play on the playground. It was cold out today, however, so we didn't stay for too long. Today was so much better than yesterday. Going to bed early makes a difference! Here are a few pictures I took this afternoon:

We had a great morning too! I think you'll be very happy with those cookbooks.
