Rainy October Day

Tuesday, October 16, 2007
There were some heavy rain showers today! With all the fallen leaves, one of the storm drains was blocked, so I had to cross the street with a rake to move the big piles of leaves that were blocking the drain. I tried to nap today, because I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night, but was unable to. I just laid on my bed and listened to the rain on the roof. The baby has been moving a lot today, and is laying transverse again.

A highlight of my day was talking to my friend Kyukyu on the phone, who is in Portland for a conference all the way from East Africa. He manages a grant program for small businesses for the World Bank and lives in Kampala, Uganda. Unfortuantely, we were unable to make contact until this evening, and he leaves at 5am tomorrow morning for NY, so I was unable to get together with him in person. I have fond memories of my trip to Uganda in 1998, and it's hard to believe it's been nearly 10 years since I was there!

You are so stinkin' lucky. I gotta email that guy. The last time I talked to him, his email got hacked and I got lots of junk from him. I take it he's doing good? If you talk to him again tonight, tell him I said hello and miss him tons. Man those were the days, huh?!? Didn't we have tons of fun on the farm. You, me and Kara? So many great memories. Now I might just have to take out my old Africa pics and post some.

I remember when you went to Africa!!! I was soooo afraid that you would be half a world away from me and if anything happened I could not 'just be there in a minute!'
I remember the phone calls from you and the cards!! WOW!! Ten years is hard to believe!!
Remember when you were going to go back there someday and teach the little kids or something like that.....you seemed to REALLY have a heart for the little kids when you were there!! Wow-- all of the memories I lived through you in the pictures when you came back and told me all about it!!
I remember it always when I look at the Africian things that you were so thoughtful to bring back to me!!
You have a lot of 'good' memories Karli!!!
Love,
Mom
