Live and Counting Crows in Ridgefield

Sunday, July 01, 2018
Last night, four of us got to go see the Counting Crows in Ridgefield, Washington.  The tickets were right up by the stage, and it was AMAZING.  I've loved Adam Duritz as an artist for as long as I can remember--he sings with his soul.  Live (who doesn't love the album "Throwing Copper"?) opened for them, too, and they were amazing in their own right.

Who doesn't love these bands?  U2, Gin Blossoms, Counting Crows, Blues Traveller, The Cranberries, Natalie Merchant, Live, etc were all bands I listened too during the 90s when I was coming of age and figuring out who I was.  Their music brings back many memories of those days where my friends and I had our whole lives in front of us--the days when life really was easy and free.  I've posted the lyrics and youtube clips of two of my favorite songs from Live/Counting Crows.  It was a good night, and probably hands down the best first concert Sam and Juniper could have attended.  They loved it!

Round Here

Step out the front door like a ghost
Into the fog where no one notices
The contrast of white on white.

And in between the moon and you
The angels get a better view
Of the crumbling difference between wrong and right.

I walk in the air between the rain,
Through myself and back again.
Where? I don't know
Maria says she's dying.
Through the door, I hear her crying
Why? I don't know

'Round here we always stand up straight
'Round here something radiates

Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand
She said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis
And she walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land
Just like she's walking on a wire in the circus
She parks her car outside of my house, takes her clothes off,
Says she's close to understanding Jesus
She knows she's more that just a little misunderstood
She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous

'Round here we're carving out our names
'Round here we all look the same
'Round here we talk just like lions
But we sacrifice like lambs
'Round here she's slipping through my hands

Sleeping children got to run like the wind
Out of the lightning dream
Mama's little baby better get herself in
Out of the lightning

She says, "It's only in my head."
She says, "Shh, I know it's only in my head."

But the girl on the car in the parking lot
Says: "Man, you should try to take a shot
Can't you see my walls are crumbling."

Then she looks up at the building
And says she's thinking of jumping.
She says she's tired of life;
She must be tired of something.

'Round here she's always on my mind
'Round here (hey man) I got lots of time
'Round here we're never sent to bed early
And nobody makes us wait
'Round here we stay up very very very very late

I can't see nothing, nothing
Around here
You catch me if I'm falling
You catch me if I'm falling
Will you catch me because I'm falling down on here
I said " I'm under the gun"
'Round here.
Oh man I said "I'm under the gun"
'Round here.
And I can't see nothin', nothin'.
'Round here.

And to love a god
And to fear a flame
And to burn a crowd that has a name
And to right or wrong
And to meek or strong
It is known just scream it from the wall

I've willed, I've walked, I've read
I've talked, I know, I know,
I've been here before, yeah

Now we won't be raped, hey
Now we won't be scarred like that, hey
Now we won't be raped , hey
Now we won't be scarred like that, hey

It's the sun that burns
It's the wheel that turns
It's the way we sing that makes 'em dream
And to Christ, a cross
And to me a chair
I will sit and earn the ransom from up here

I've willed, I've walked, I've read
I've talked, I know, I know,
I've been here before, yeah

Now we won't be raped, hey
Now we won't be scarred like that, hey
Now we won't be raped , hey
Now we won't be scarred like that
Scarred like that

And to love, a god
And to fear, a flame
And to burn, a love that has a name

I've willed, I've walked, I've read
I've talked, I know, I know
I've been here before, yeah

Now we won't be raped, hey
Now we won't be scarred like that, hey
Now we won't be raped , hey
Now we won't be scarred like that
Hey hey na nana

(Hoo hoo) we won't be scarred like that
(Hoo hoo) we won't be scarred like that
(Hoo hoo)
