Our Second Anniversary

Thursday, January 04, 2018

Tonight we celebrated our second wedding anniversary at EaT: An Oyster Bar on N. Williams.  I met Adam on September 16, 2014 in New Orleans by chance (or was it fate?).  I had been out for dinner with my friend Maggie and her roomates for my last night in NOLA, but wanted to go out one last time, so meandered up to Bourbon Street from my beautiful room at Hotel Provincial on Rue Chartres to my favorite oldest bar in America, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar, where I had noticed the Bourbon Street musicians would often gather after their gigs for a session.  I sat down with a pint when Adam grabbed a seat at my table and asked me how I was going.  I initially cold-shouldered him, as I wasn't really interested in sharing my table with anyone, nor was I in the mood for being hit on.  Little did I know I was sitting across the table from my future husband.

We hung out for not more than a couple of hours, walking around French Quarter, then we parted ways.  I told the security guard at my hotel that I had just met the nicest guy.  Adam, from Australia, was travelling through the US and Canada on holiday, so was back on a Contiki tour bus heading to Alabama the next morning, and I was on a plane back to home in PDX.  I text messaged him over espresso at CafĂ© Fleur-De-Lis before heading to the airport "It was nice meeting you.  I hope you have a great trip!"  Little did I know, but that text would be the first of what led to a long-distance relationship with several trips in between to see one another before Adam eventually missed his flight back to Australia (on purpose) and proposed.

So, we've reached two years.  Through the ups and the downs, we have accomplished so much.  We worked so hard to find a way to be together, and together we will be . . . forever.

There is no one else for me
but dear, sweet Adam Del Bi.

x o, Karli
