Garden Springs to Life

Sunday, May 18, 2008

It's true what they say of new gardens: "First year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap." This spring marks my garden's third birthday. As soon as we arrived home from our trip to Long Beach, I noticed at once that my garden was in top form. The warmer weather this week was just what most of my perennials needed to push them into full bloom. The warmer weather means daily watering, but it's a small price to pay for a beautiful garden.

South side of our house is looking beautiful this time of year.

Columbine from seeds my neighbor brought to Portland from her house in Ohio. I, too, took plants with me when we moved from my garden on Pasadena Street. I love that my garden is a collection of memories from my own past garden and gifts from neighbors and friends.

Karli, Your garden looks very nice!! It is a good feeling when you have put a lot of work into it and then see the results of it and it is very beautiful!!
I especially like the Columbine just because I am prevy to that color!! I had never heard of the saying:
first year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap.
Very cute saying and I'm sure it is true!
You know so much more about gardening than I ever did.
Love you,
Mom
